What causes prolonged waiting time for urination?
During this period, I often have to wait a long time to finish urinating, which makes me very uncomfortable. Therefore, I really want to ask, what causes prolonged urination time?
Long waiting time for urination, commonly referred to as urinary hesitation, is primarily caused by the following factors:
1. Prostate enlargement: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common cause in males. As men age, the prostate gland gradually enlarges, compressing the urethra and obstructing urine flow. Patients often need to wait some time before being able to start urinating, and the urine stream is usually weak and interrupted.
2. Bladder problems: Neurogenic bladder or detrusor muscle dysfunction may also lead to urinary hesitation. Neurogenic bladder refers to impaired bladder contraction and relaxation due to neurological disorders, resulting in difficulty in urination. Detrusor muscle dysfunction refers to problems with the bladder muscles, such as muscle weakness or overactivity, which interfere with the normal urination process.
3. Urinary tract infections: Conditions such as cystitis can cause inflammation that weakens the contractile force of the bladder muscles, leading to prolonged urination latency.
4. Urinary tract obstruction: Conditions such as urethral stricture or bladder stones may block the outflow of urine, causing urinary hesitation.
If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical consultation is recommended.
