Prostate cysts are a type of male prostate disease, referring to a fluid-filled or semi-solid mass formed within the prostate. The causes of prostate cysts can mainly be attributed to the following factors:

1. Congenital factors: Prostate cysts may originate from congenital developmental abnormalities. During embryonic development, the mesonephric ducts and paramesonephric ducts may develop abnormally, leading to partial dilation of the ductal lumen and subsequent cyst formation.

2. Post-inflammatory sequelae: Prostatitis is a common cause of prostate cysts. Chronic prostatitis may lead to obstruction of the glandular ducts, causing accumulation of secretions and formation of cysts. Additionally, cell necrosis and tissue repair during inflammation may also contribute to cyst development.

3. Tumor-related factors: Although rare, certain types of prostate tumors (such as benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer) may be accompanied by cyst formation during their development.

4. Other factors: Long-term indwelling urinary catheterization, abnormal sexual activity, and other conditions may irritate or injure the prostate, thereby increasing the risk of developing prostate cysts.
