Is chronic cervicitis a serious condition?
I was diagnosed with chronic cervicitis and I'm very scared. How serious is chronic cervicitis exactly? Will it pose significant harm to my health?

Chronic cervicitis is a relatively common gynecological condition, usually resulting from incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis, which allows pathogens to remain dormant in the body for a long time and eventually cause the condition.
Main symptoms include increased vaginal discharge, which may change in texture, color, and odor. There may also be a feeling of discomfort in the lower abdomen. It generally does not pose a direct threat to life. However, it should never be taken lightly. If left untreated, it may lead to a series of serious consequences.
1. It may cause cervical erosion, cervical polyps, and cervical hypertrophy, significantly increasing the risk of cervical cancer.
2. The inflammation may also spread upward and infect the endometrium and fallopian tubes, potentially leading to infertility or ectopic pregnancy.
Treatment methods generally include medication, physical therapy, and surgical treatment.
It is recommended that women undergo regular gynecological examinations. Once diagnosed, they must strictly follow the doctor's instructions for standardized treatment. In daily life, special attention should be given to personal hygiene and avoiding unclean sexual practices to prevent triggering or worsening the condition.
