What causes an abnormal heart rate?
The heart rate suddenly increases to 150 beats per minute without apparent cause, sometimes occurring and sometimes not occurring for several days or even half a month. I would like to know why the heart rate is irregular.

Abnormal heart rate, known as arrhythmia, can be caused by various factors:
1. Emotional fluctuations and excessive fatigue are common triggers. Prolonged states of tension, anxiety, engaging in heavy physical labor, or staying up late for extended periods can all affect heart rate.
2. Certain medical conditions may also lead to arrhythmia. These include coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy, electrolyte imbalances (such as potassium and magnesium), hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, and side effects of medications (e.g., certain antipsychotics). Additionally, anemia may cause pallor and fatigue, and in severe cases, can affect heart rate.
3. Following intense exercise, enhanced myocardial contractility may also result in temporary heart rate abnormalities.
4. Elderly individuals are more prone to arrhythmias due to aging of the heart's conduction system.
If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical attention is recommended. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle—including regular exercise, balanced nutrition, avoiding tobacco and alcohol, and weight control—is beneficial for maintaining a normal heart rate.
