Is a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg normal?
Recently, I have been experiencing dizziness frequently. After visiting the hospital for a checkup, they told me my diastolic blood pressure is 90 mmHg. Is a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg considered normal?
Low blood pressure refers to diastolic pressure; a diastolic pressure of 90mmHg is generally considered to be elevated. Its normal range is typically between 60mmHg and 89mmHg. When diastolic pressure reaches 90mmHg, it has already exceeded the upper limit of this normal range.
Specifically, a diastolic pressure of 90mmHg is usually classified as borderline hypertension, also known as stage 1 hypertension or mild hypertension. This indicates that the blood pressure value has started to approach the criteria for hypertension, but has not yet reached the level requiring immediate medication. Long-term hypertension increases the risk of serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
Therefore, if diastolic pressure consistently remains at 90mmHg or higher, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly to determine whether measures are needed to control blood pressure. Adjustments to lifestyle factors, such as healthy eating, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, and medication when necessary, are all effective strategies for managing hypertension.
