Melasma may have a genetic component.

If there is a family history of melasma, the risk of developing the condition is relatively increased. This is because genetic factors may influence the skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light, the function of melanocytes, and the expression of hormone receptors, thereby increasing the incidence of melasma.

However, the development of melasma may also be related to hormone levels, UV exposure, lifestyle factors, and more.

In daily life, it is important to strengthen sun protection measures, avoid prolonged exposure to intense light, and regulate endocrine function to reduce the risk of developing melasma. Treatment options include skin-lightening products, laser therapy, and chemical peels.
