What are the causes of pimples on the face?
My face has recently started breaking out again. I would like to know what causes acne on the face?
Facial acne, commonly known as "acne vulgaris" or "pimples," is primarily caused by the following factors:
1. Abnormal follicular keratinization: Excessive proliferation of keratinocytes at the hair follicle opening, which fail to shed normally, combines with sebum to form a keratin plug, blocking pores and forming comedones.
2. Hormonal imbalance: During puberty, increased androgen activity or irregular lifestyle habits in adulthood, such as staying up late, can lead to hormonal fluctuations that stimulate increased sebum production.
3. Bacterial infection: Bacterial growth on the face, especially Propionibacterium acnes, is a common cause of acne.
4. Genetic factors: Individuals with a family history of acne are more likely to develop acne themselves.
5. Medication effects: Certain drugs, such as hormonal agents and antiepileptic medications, may also trigger or exacerbate acne.
6. Diet and lifestyle: High-sugar and high-fat diets, along with habits such as staying up late and experiencing high stress levels, can worsen acne.
Treating acne should involve a comprehensive approach including cleansing, exfoliation, oil control, antibacterial measures, and anti-inflammatory strategies. Medical consultation is recommended when necessary.
