The main symptoms of gastroenteritis include the following aspects:

1. Gastrointestinal symptoms:

Nausea and vomiting: Due to infection of the gastrointestinal tract by viruses or bacteria, the sensitivity of smooth muscles increases, making them prone to contractile spasms when stimulated, thus causing nausea and vomiting.

Diarrhea: After the gastrointestinal mucosa becomes infected, congestion, edema, and increased secretion of mucus and digestive fluids occur, while absorption function weakens and intestinal peristalsis accelerates, leading to diarrhea, usually in the form of loose or watery stools.

Abdominal pain and bloating: Intestinal peristalsis increases significantly compared to normal conditions, or the mucosa on the intestinal wall becomes inflamed, red, and swollen, causing abdominal pain and a sensation of bloating.

2. Systemic symptoms:

Fever: Following a viral or bacterial infection, the body experiences an inflammatory response, leading to an elevated body temperature.

Weakness and body aches: As the body fights against pathogens, significant energy is consumed, potentially resulting in symptoms of fatigue and generalized body aches.

Other cold-like symptoms: Some patients may also experience mild upper respiratory infection symptoms, such as headache, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, and runny nose.

If symptoms persist or worsen, prompt medical attention is recommended.
