Common causes of elevated CA72-4
I recently had a medical checkup, and the results showed that my CA724 level was elevated. I'm quite anxious about this and don't know what might be causing it. I haven't felt any significant discomfort, although I occasionally experience slight stomach distension. Therefore, I would like to know what are the common causes of elevated CA724 levels.
Elevated CA724 levels are a matter of concern. CA724, also known as carbohydrate antigen 724, primarily exists in digestive organs such as the stomach and is one of the commonly used tumor markers. When elevated, it may be associated with various conditions.
1. Tumors: Digestive tract cancers such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic cancer may cause increased CA724 levels. However, elevated CA724 levels alone do not necessarily confirm a diagnosis of cancer. Comprehensive evaluation, including other detailed examinations such as pathological biopsy, is required.
2. Inflammatory diseases: Inflammatory conditions such as gastritis, acute pancreatitis, and colitis may lead to elevated CA724 levels. Viral infections, such as hepatitis B and influenza, can also potentially cause an increase.
3. Age, lifestyle habits, and medication use: These factors can also affect CA724 levels. Some elderly individuals may exhibit slightly elevated levels. Unhealthy lifestyle habits such as chronic alcohol consumption and poor sleep quality, as well as the use of hormone medications and antiepileptic drugs, may also lead to elevated CA724 levels.
