Dr. Liu Feng

Eating eggs has a relatively limited effect on anemia.

Eggs contain a certain amount of iron, which although non-heme iron, still serves as a nutritional source for individuals with anemia. However, the bioavailability of iron in eggs is relatively low, so relying solely on egg consumption to improve anemia is not significantly effective.

Egg yolks have a higher iron content and better absorption rates, helping to replenish the body's iron stores and prevent iron-deficiency anemia. Vitamin B12 promotes red blood cell production and can improve megaloblastic anemia. However, compared with iron in plant-based foods, the iron content in eggs is not particularly high, and excessive consumption may lead to other health problems.

If the anemia is due to iron deficiency, iron supplements may be necessary. For anemia caused by other factors, alternative treatment approaches might be needed. For specific types of anemia, such as hemolytic anemia or aplastic anemia, dietary adjustments have limited effectiveness, and following a physician's treatment plan is recommended.
