Appendicitis in males is a common acute abdominal pain condition that may present with the following symptoms:
1. Abdominal pain: Discomfort or pain typically starts around the navel and then gradually shifts to the lower right abdomen, becoming more severe. This migratory right lower quadrant pain is one of the characteristic signs of appendicitis.
2. Nausea and vomiting: Patients may experience nausea, sometimes accompanied by vomiting, although these symptoms usually occur after the onset of abdominal pain.
3. Fever: Mild to moderate fever is common, with body temperature potentially reaching around 38°C. High fever may indicate the spread of infection.
4. Loss of appetite: Patients may experience a decreased appetite and may even be unable to eat.
5. Abdominal tenderness: During physical examination, there will be significant tenderness in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. If the pain intensifies when pressure is suddenly released, it is referred to as rebound tenderness.
6. Decreased bowel sounds: Appendicitis may impair intestinal function, resulting in diminished bowel sounds.
