What causes fluid accumulation in the knee?
Knee joint swelling and pain; going to the hospital for examination reveals fluid accumulation inside the knee. What causes this condition?

The main causes of knee joint effusion include the following:
1. Joint inflammation: Such as degenerative osteoarthritis, rheumatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. These chronic inflammatory conditions can cause reactive changes in the joint synovium, increasing synovial exudation and reducing its absorption capacity, thereby leading to fluid accumulation.
2. Joint trauma: Such as knee sprains and fractures. These injuries can cause intra-articular bleeding, leading to effusion formation, accompanied by significant swelling and pain.
3. Joint infection: Bacterial infection can cause pyogenic arthritis of the knee joint, resulting in joint effusion, accompanied by inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain.
4. Disease-related factors: Conditions such as synovitis, meniscal injury, and gouty arthritis may also lead to knee joint effusion. Synovitis can be caused by various factors including fatigue, cold exposure, and trauma; meniscal injury is often due to acute injury or violent force applied to the knee joint; gouty arthritis is associated with long-term purine metabolic disorders, elevated blood uric acid levels, and other factors.
