Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical imaging technique. It primarily uses powerful magnetic fields, radiofrequency pulses, and advanced computer technology to generate images of internal body structures.

Unlike traditional X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use radiation. Instead, it creates images by detecting signals emitted by hydrogen atoms within the body when exposed to specific magnetic fields and radiofrequency pulses.

MRI provides exceptionally clear soft tissue contrast. In diagnosing neurological diseases such as brain tumors and multiple sclerosis, it can clearly show the location and shape of lesions. For musculoskeletal conditions like arthritis and muscle strains, it can accurately depict the extent of soft tissue damage.

During an MRI examination, the patient lies on a table that slides into a large, tube-like machine that generates a strong magnetic field.

During the procedure, the patient may hear some noise and feel slight vibrations; however, the process is generally painless. To make certain tissues or abnormalities more visible in the images, doctors may inject a contrast agent into the patient before or during the exam to enhance image quality.
