Disease description:

I have been experiencing pain in the tendons of my feet recently, especially after walking a lot or exercising, and the pain becomes more noticeable. Sometimes I also feel some swelling in my feet. I wonder what's causing this? Is it due to overexertion from exercise, or could there be other reasons?

Foot tendon pain usually refers to pain in the muscles or tendons on the bottom of the foot or the back of the leg. Common causes include the following:

1. Overuse: Prolonged standing, walking, or exercising, especially a sudden increase in activity level, can lead to muscle fatigue and minor injuries, causing pain.

2. Sports injuries: Engaging in prolonged running, jumping, or weight-bearing activities can lead to peritendinitis of the Achilles tendon or plantar fasciitis, both of which may cause foot tendon pain.

3. Achilles tendinitis: The Achilles tendon connects the heel bone to the calf muscles. Inflammation can result from overuse or a sudden increase in load, manifesting as pain above the heel.

4. Strain-related conditions: Fasciitis can also lead to injury of the foot muscles and ligaments, typically caused by chronic strain or invasion of cold and dampness.

5. Nerve compression: Sciatica extending to the calf or nerve compression in the foot can cause sharp pain or numbness in the foot tendons.

Mild foot tendon pain can be relieved with rest, ice application, and massage. If the condition is severe, medical evaluation at a hospital is necessary.
