What causes pain in the right side of the chest?
Recently, I have been experiencing intermittent pain in my right chest and would like to know what might be causing it?
Possible causes of right-sided chest pain:
1. Muscular and skeletal issues: such as chest wall muscle strain, rib fractures, or costochondritis. These types of pain are related to activity and may cause localized pain and tenderness.
2. Respiratory diseases: such as pneumonia, pleurisy, or bronchitis. These often present with accompanying symptoms like coughing, sputum production, fever, and in severe cases, difficulty breathing.
3. Digestive system problems: such as gastritis, pancreatitis, or cholecystitis. These may cause right-sided chest pain accompanied by symptoms like indigestion, nausea, and abdominal bloating.
4. Nervous system issues: nerve pain may cause pain on one side or in a localized area of the chest, often accompanied by a stabbing sensation or numbness.
5. Cardiovascular diseases: although chest pain caused by heart disease typically occurs behind the breastbone, it can sometimes present as right-sided chest pain, such as angina or myocardial infarction. This type of pain often feels like pressure and may be accompanied by symptoms such as sweating and nausea.
If right-sided chest pain occurs, prompt medical attention is recommended.
