What are the symptoms of nerve atrophy?
Recently, I noticed that my movements have become slow and my gait unsteady, and I also feel weak. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I learned that I have nerve atrophy, which startled me. Therefore, what are the symptoms of nerve atrophy?
Neural atrophy is mainly characterized by a reduction in nerve cells and degeneration of nerve fibers. Common symptoms:
1. Sensory disturbances: Manifested as numbness, pain, and tingling in the limbs, caused by impaired nerve function.
2. Motor dysfunction: Patients may experience decreased muscle strength, muscle stiffness, tremors, and severe cases may lead to paralysis.
3. Autonomic nervous system dysfunction: Symptoms such as chest tightness, palpitations, excessive sweating, and insomnia, which are clinical manifestations of increased sympathetic nervous system activity following nerve atrophy.
4. Brain atrophy-specific symptoms: Including dementia, mental fatigue, forgetfulness, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, and memory loss, primarily affecting memory and cognitive abilities.
5. Muscle atrophy-specific symptoms: Such as muscle weakness, muscle pain, localized sensations of soreness, numbness, distension, and heaviness; muscle fiber twitching is also a common symptom of muscle atrophy.
6. Vision loss: When the optic nerve atrophies, the main manifestation is decreased vision.
7. Other symptoms: Depending on the specific location of the nerve atrophy, other symptoms may also appear, such as diarrhea and abdominal pain caused by intestinal functional atrophy.
