How to Treat Knee Joint Popping Sounds
I haven't exercised for a while, and since the weather is nice today, I decided to go for a walk. However, I noticed a cracking sound from my knee joint when going downstairs. How should this be treated?
Common approaches to dealing with knee joint sounds:
1. Physiological sounds: If there is no pain or discomfort, no special treatment is required; mild activity can eliminate the sounds.
2. Rest and avoid excessive activity: If knee joint sounds are accompanied by pain or discomfort, reduce pressure on the knee joint, avoid strenuous exercise, and allow the joint adequate rest.
3. Physical therapy: Includes heat or cold compresses and appropriate joint range-of-motion exercises, which can help relieve joint stiffness and pain.
4. Medication: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen capsules, can reduce inflammation and pain. If the sound is caused by insufficient joint lubrication, intra-articular injections of sodium hyaluronate may sometimes be considered to improve joint lubrication.
5. Lifestyle modifications: Avoid maintaining the same posture for prolonged periods, regularly stretch and move the joints, choose appropriate footwear, and avoid high heels or completely flat shoes.
Medication should be taken under the guidance of a qualified physician.
