Baking soda has a certain effect on treating bad breath.

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, can be used at home as an oral cleanser to help alleviate bad breath. Its alkaline properties help neutralize the acidic environment in the mouth, thereby reducing bacterial growth and lessening bad breath. A small amount of baking soda can be mixed with water to form a paste, which can then be gently brushed onto the teeth and tongue surface using a toothbrush, followed by thoroughly rinsing the mouth. However, excessive use may disrupt the acid-base balance in the mouth, leading to tooth sensitivity or damage to the tooth enamel. Therefore, it is recommended to use baking soda in moderation and to maintain good daily oral hygiene habits, such as regular tooth brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash.

Most cases of bad breath are caused by disharmony of the spleen and stomach and impaired digestive function, so effective methods should target the underlying causes. For excessive stomach heat, drinking chrysanthemum tea or honeysuckle tea may also help.

Although baking soda can temporarily relieve bad breath, it cannot fundamentally resolve the problem. In daily life, maintaining good oral hygiene and dietary habits is also important for preventing bad breath.
