How to Get Rid of Body Odor
My younger brother has axillary odor (bromhidrosis). Every time he sweats, there is a strong smell. How can he get rid of the body odor?

Body odor (bromhidrosis) is a condition caused by the decomposition of sweat from apocrine glands by surface skin bacteria, resulting in an unpleasant smell. Several methods can be used for its removal:
1. Daily care: Patients are advised to maintain good hygiene of the underarms, wear loose-fitting, breathable cotton clothing, and use a mild shower gel or soap daily to clean the area and reduce localized odor.
2. Physical therapy: Treatments such as liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, laser therapy, and high-frequency electrotherapy devices can be used to destroy hair follicles and sweat glands, thereby reducing sweat secretion and treating body odor.
3. Surgical treatment: Options include laser therapy or surgical excision of the apocrine glands. However, these methods should be carefully selected and performed under a physician's guidance.
4. Pharmacological treatment: Under medical supervision, topical agents such as formaldehyde solution, urotropine solution, and boric acid solution may be used. These medications have antiperspirant effects and can reduce bacterial growth and odor production.
Other treatment options include microwave therapy and traditional Chinese medicine. Patients experiencing body odor are advised to seek medical attention promptly.
