What to do about baby hiccups
Doctor, my baby gets hiccups very easily. What should I do about the hiccups?

Hiccups in infants are a common phenomenon, and parents need not worry excessively. The following are some methods to help alleviate infant hiccups:
1. Change feeding positions: Try different feeding positions to ensure the baby's head is slightly elevated while feeding, which reduces swallowed air. Keep the baby upright for at least 20-30 minutes after feeding to aid digestion and release gas.
2. Gently pat the back: After feeding, hold the baby upright and gently pat the baby's back from bottom to top using a cupped hand to release air from the stomach, thereby relieving hiccups.
3. Pause or feed slowly: If the baby starts hiccuping during feeding, temporarily stop feeding and allow the baby to rest before continuing. Try to let the baby eat slowly to avoid rapid feeding that may cause excessive air swallowing.
4. Use a pacifier: Sometimes, giving the baby a pacifier to suck on may also help relieve hiccups.
5. Feed warm water: If the hiccups are caused by cold exposure, giving the infant some warm water may help, as the warm liquid can soothe diaphragm spasms.
