How about Feline Infectious Peritonitis?
I have been experiencing frequent abdominal pain and a decline in immunity lately. After an examination, I was diagnosed with infectious peritonitis. What exactly is infectious peritonitis?
Peritonitis, also known as infectious peritonitis, is a serious infectious disease caused by bacteria or other pathogens. Its main characteristic is infection and inflammatory reaction in the peritoneal layers of abdominal visceral organs. Common causative bacteria include Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. These bacteria can enter the abdominal cavity through pathways such as wound infections from abdominal surgery, perforation of abdominal organs, intestinal obstruction or blockage, or spread from other infectious foci within the abdominal cavity, thereby triggering peritonitis.
The main symptoms of this disease include severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, abdominal distension, and abdominal tenderness. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation, laboratory tests, imaging studies, and analysis of ascitic fluid. Treatment mainly includes anti-infective therapy, supportive therapy, and, when necessary, surgical intervention aimed at eliminating the source of infection, controlling inflammation, and preventing complications.
Treatment for infectious peritonitis includes general management, gastrointestinal decompression, pharmacological therapy, peritoneal drainage, and surgical treatment. If the condition continues to progress and the aforementioned treatments are ineffective, surgical intervention is required to remove the infectious source within the abdominal cavity.
