What should not be consumed with Chinese dates (jujubes)?
I know that in dietetics, contraindications and incompatibilities in food combinations are often of significant concern. I've heard that when eating Chinese dates (jujubes), one should pay attention to compatible pairings. I would like to know generally what foods should not be consumed together with jujubes.
The following are some foods that should not be consumed together with Chinese dates:
1. Foods rich in vitamin C-degrading enzymes: such as cucumber and carrot. The vitamin C-degrading enzymes in these foods can destroy the vitamin C in Chinese dates, thereby reducing their nutritional value.
2. Seafood: Chinese dates are considered warm-natured foods, while most seafood is cold-natured. Consuming them together may cause indigestion or even lead to symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea.
3. Animal liver: Chinese dates contain abundant iron, and animal liver is also a source of iron. Consuming both together may result in excessive iron absorption, leading to iron poisoning, which may manifest as symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
4. Foods rich in tannic acid: such as persimmons and tea. Tannic acid can combine with the proteins in Chinese dates to form precipitates that are difficult to digest, affecting digestion and absorption, and may even cause gastric calculi (stomach stones).
In addition, certain medications such as cyclophosphamide tablets and aminophylline tablets should also be avoided when consuming Chinese dates, to prevent interference with drug efficacy or adverse reactions. At the same time, in daily diet, foods should be reasonably combined to ensure a balanced diet.
