What causes dizziness and blurred vision?
I have been feeling dizzy and lightheaded lately, and I don't know why. May I ask what causes dizziness and lightheadedness?
Dizziness and blurred vision may be caused by various factors, as follows:
1. Reduced cerebral blood flow, which may be triggered by excessive fatigue, prolonged熬夜 (staying up late), lack of exercise, or significant emotional fluctuations that lower the body's resistance and affect cerebral blood supply.
2. Anemia, which can lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the body and cause dizziness and blurred vision.
3. Inner ear disorders, such as Ménière's disease, which can affect balance and hearing and may also cause dizziness and visual disturbances.
4. Hypertension: Poorly controlled blood pressure in hypertensive patients can easily cause cerebral vascular spasms, leading to dizziness and visual disturbances.
5. Cervical spondylosis: Herniated intervertebral discs may compress the vertebral artery, causing insufficient blood supply to the brain and resulting in these symptoms.
6. Medications: Some drugs may cause dizziness and blurred vision as side effects.
Diagnosis involves detailed medical history taking, physical examination, and ancillary tests such as blood tests, electrocardiogram (ECG), cranial CT or MRI scans, and ophthalmologic examinations to determine the underlying cause.
Treatment options include lifestyle modifications, such as ensuring adequate sleep, engaging in moderate exercise, and maintaining emotional stability; pharmacological treatments, such as blood pressure control or anemia management; and surgical or other targeted therapies, such as surgical intervention for severe cervical spondylosis.
If persistent dizziness and blurred vision occur, timely medical consultation is recommended for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
