Prolonged runny nose and sneezing may be caused by various factors. Common causes include allergic rhinitis, in which the nasal mucosa has an allergic reaction after exposure to allergens, leading to nasal itching, sneezing, and rhinorrhea. Persistent symptoms may also result from an unresolved common cold, as the viral infection can keep the nasal mucosa in an inflamed state, causing related symptoms.

Avoid contact with potential allergens whenever possible, such as maintaining indoor cleanliness and regularly washing bed linens. Nasal irrigation with normal saline can help remove nasal secretions and reduce inflammatory responses, and can be performed 2–3 times daily. If symptoms are severe, medications may be used under a doctor's guidance. For allergic rhinitis, nasal sprays such as mometasone furoate or antihistamines like loratadine may be selected. For unresolved common colds, decongestants such as pseudoephedrine may be used according to specific circumstances.

If symptoms persist or are accompanied by other concerns such as fever, cough, or headache, prompt medical attention is advised.
