Common causes of red patches with itching under the navel include contact dermatitis, which may result from contact with certain allergens such as clothing materials, newly used laundry detergents, belts, etc., leading to allergic skin reactions. It could also be eczema, related to dry skin, allergies, and local irritation. Fungal infections, such as tinea cruris (jock itch), should also be considered. If the rash appears ring-shaped with raised edges and a central area that tends to clear up, accompanied by scaling and significant itching, tinea cruris is more likely. In addition, insect bites can also cause localized redness and itching.

If it is contact dermatitis, possible allergens should be removed as soon as possible, and comfortable, breathable clothing should be worn. For mild itching, calamine lotion may be applied topically to help relieve the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or worsen—for example, if the redness spreads, blisters develop, or exudation occurs—prompt medical attention should be sought.

If diagnosed as contact dermatitis or eczema, oral antihistamines such as loratadine or cetirizine may be needed, along with topical corticosteroid creams such as desonide cream.

If it is tinea cruris, antifungal medications are generally required. Topical treatments such as ketoconazole cream or terbinafine cream may be used. In severe cases, oral antifungal drugs may be necessary. However, oral antifungals should be used under a doctor's guidance due to potential side effects such as hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity.

During treatment, personal hygiene should be maintained, and towels, clothing, and other personal items should not be shared to prevent cross-infection.
