In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology that helps couples who are unable to conceive naturally by fertilizing eggs with sperm in a laboratory setting to form embryos, which are then transferred into the woman's uterus. After the embryo transfer, women may experience a series of physical reactions similar to the bodily changes that occur during a natural pregnancy.
1. Decreased body temperature: Some women may experience a slight drop in body temperature after successful embryo transfer due to the body's stress response. However, this decrease is usually minor and does not require special treatment.
2. Early pregnancy symptoms: Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, and fatigue may appear within a few weeks after embryo transfer, resulting from hormonal changes in the body.
3. Abdominal discomfort: As the embryo implants and the fetus develops, the uterus enlarges, which may cause feelings of bloating or mild abdominal pain.
4. Bleeding or discharge: Light bleeding or pinkish discharge may sometimes occur during implantation, known as implantation bleeding. This typically is not a cause for concern, although any abnormal bleeding should be reported to a physician.
5. Constipation: Following embryo transfer, the use of medications to support pregnancy and reduced physical activity can lead to slower intestinal movement and constipation.
