Disease description:

I accidentally fell down and afterward felt severe pain on the right side of my head. After going to the hospital for an examination, they told me I had a fracture in the right side of my skull. Why would a minor fall result in a skull fracture on the right side?

Right skull fracture refers to a break or crack in the cranial bones on the right side of the head. This is a common type of traumatic brain injury. The skull consists of multiple bones that serve to protect the brain. When the head experiences a strong impact or external force, such as from a traffic accident, fall, or sports-related injury, it may result in a skull fracture.

1. Trauma: The most common cause of skull fracture is the impact of external force on the head, such as from car accidents, falls, or blows. When force is applied to the skull, it can create a counterforce that leads to bone fracture.

2. Calcium deficiency: When the body lacks calcium, bone strength decreases, and even minor trauma may cause a skull fracture.

3. Incomplete development: Infants and children are in a stage of growth and development; their skulls are not fully formed and are relatively fragile, making them more susceptible to fractures when subjected to external impact.

Right skull fracture may present with local swelling, pain, and scalp bruising. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by neurological symptoms such as impaired consciousness, headache, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Furthermore, fractures may affect intracranial structures, such as brain tissue damage, intracranial hemorrhage, or cerebral edema, which require urgent medical attention.
