Disease description:

I have been experiencing persistent pain inside my left clavicle (collarbone) recently. The pain becomes more noticeable when pressing on the area, and sometimes moving my shoulder also seems to worsen the pain. What could be causing this?

The clavicle in the human body is located at the junction of the neck and chest. It is an important bone connecting the scapula to the sternum, with abundant nerves, blood vessels, and muscle tissue distributed inside and around it. Therefore, pain on the medial side of the left clavicle may be related to multiple systems or organs, and the specific causes include but are not limited to the following:

1. Trauma and soft tissue injury: Trauma may damage soft tissues such as muscles and ligaments, causing local inflammatory reactions and edema, which can lead to pain. This type of pain can be relieved by applying cold compresses to reduce swelling, and painkillers may be taken when necessary.

2. Musculoskeletal problems: This is one of the most common causes, possibly due to muscle tension or strain resulting from overuse, poor posture, sports injuries, or prolonged maintenance of the same posture, such as injury to the trapezius or pectoralis major muscles.

3. Nerve pain: Pain may also be caused by compressed or damaged nerves, for example, nerve root compression caused by cervical spondylosis or neuritis caused by herpes zoster.

4. Pleurisy: When the parietal and visceral pleura become inflamed and involve the left pleura, pain inside the left clavicle may occur.

5. Pulmonary embolism: Blockage of the pulmonary artery trunk or its branches by a blood clot or other substance may obstruct pulmonary blood circulation, causing chest pain.

If the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by serious symptoms, it is recommended to seek immediate medical treatment at a hospital.
