Disease description:

I have recently been diagnosed with liver and kidney dysfunction. My doctor recommended taking Honghua Qinggan Shisanwei Pills to regulate liver function, and also prescribed Pishen Shuangbu Pills to improve my kidney deficiency symptoms. I am concerned that taking both medications together might cause adverse reactions, so I would like to ask whether these two medicines can be taken concurrently.

The main ingredients of Honghua Qinggan Thirteen-Flavor Pills include safflower, bupleurum, and scutellaria, among others. It functions to clear heat and detoxify, as well as to soothe the liver and regulate qi. It is suitable for symptoms such as liver qi transforming into fire and damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder. On the other hand, Pi Shen Shuang Bu Pills are primarily composed of codonopsis, atractylodes, poria, yam, and prepared rehmannia, among others. These pills benefit the spleen and kidneys, consolidate essence, and prevent seminal emission. They are suitable for symptoms such as soreness and weakness of the waist and knees and reduced appetite with loose stools caused by deficiency of both the spleen and kidneys. In terms of therapeutic effects, these two medicines target the liver and the spleen-kidney systems respectively, and therefore can be used together.
