
What are the early signs of lumbar muscle strain?
Recently, I have been feeling some mild discomfort in my lower back. I've heard that lumbar muscle strain can be quite concerning, and I would like to know what early signs or symptoms indicate lumbar muscle strain.

Lumbar muscle strain, also known as functional low back pain, chronic low back injury, or lumbar gluteal myofascial inflammation, is actually a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the lumbar muscles and the fascia or periosteum at their attachment points. Its precursors and early symptoms mainly include the following:
1. Mild discomfort in the lower back: An individual may feel a slight soreness or discomfort in the lower back after increased physical activity, such as prolonged standing, sitting, or doing housework, with symptoms relieved after rest.
2. Stiffness: The lumbar muscles may feel stiff, causing reduced flexibility in the lumbar spine and surrounding tissues during movement, which may intensify the sensation of pain.
3. Restricted movement: Due to pain and stiffness, the range of motion in the lower back may decrease, causing discomfort when bending over, turning, or performing other movements involving the waist.
4. Easy fatigability of the lower back: Compared to before, the lower back tires more easily, especially after maintaining the same posture for an extended period of time, with this sensation becoming more pronounced.
The above symptoms could be precursors to lumbar muscle strain, but they may also be associated with other medical conditions. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to seek medical examination and treatment at a hospital immediately.
