What causes distension and pain on both sides of the lower abdomen?
Recently, I have been experiencing a feeling of distension and pain on both sides of the lower abdomen. I would like to ask the doctor what could be causing this?

Distension and pain on both sides of the lower abdomen may be caused by various factors, with common symptoms including diseases of the digestive system, urinary system, and reproductive system.
In the digestive system, it could be caused by intestinal problems such as enteritis or appendicitis, or referred pain from conditions affecting the liver or pancreas. In the urinary system, such symptoms may also be caused by kidney stones, cystitis, or ureteral infections. At the same time, for women, distension and pain on both sides of the lower abdomen may be related to the reproductive system, such as ovarian cysts. When cysts enlarge or rupture, they may cause pain on both sides of the lower abdomen. Additionally, gynecological inflammations such as salpingitis, adnexitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and cervicitis may also cause similar symptoms. Moreover, during a woman's menstrual cycle, mild distension and pain on both sides of the lower abdomen may occur, which is usually due to uterine contractions and endometrial shedding.
However, if accompanied by symptoms such as fever, vomiting, hematuria, or severe back pain, prompt medical attention is necessary, as these may indicate urgent conditions requiring immediate treatment, such as acute appendicitis or impacted kidney stones.
