What can be done about acne?
I have developed a lot of acne on my face and am planning to seek treatment. What should I do about the acne?
Acne, commonly known as pimples, is a chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Treatment of acne should comprehensively consider its severity, individual differences, and patient needs, adopting an individualized therapeutic strategy.
1. Daily skin care: Keep the skin clean by using mild, non-irritating facial cleansers. Avoid excessive cleansing and friction. Choose non-greasy, non-comedogenic skincare products, and avoid cosmetics that may cause acne.
2. Medication treatment:
Topical medications: Use products such as tretinoin cream and erythromycin ointment, which have anti-inflammatory and swelling-reducing properties, helping to promote acne resolution.
Oral medications: For pustular acne, antibiotics such as doxycycline (a tetracycline) or erythromycin (a macrolide) should be used under a doctor's guidance to provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
3. Physical therapies: Including photodynamic therapy, laser treatment, and microneedling, which can help improve acne and its sequelae.
4. Psychological support: Acne may affect patients' mental health; psychological counseling or consultation should be provided when necessary to help patients develop a positive mindset.
5. Lifestyle modifications: Maintain a light diet, avoid excessive intake of oily, spicy, fishy, and sugary foods, and increase dietary fiber consumption. Adjust sleep patterns, avoid staying up late, and maintain healthy lifestyle habits.
