Can anal fissures with rectal bleeding heal on their own?
Recently, I noticed bright red blood dripping into the toilet bowl during bowel movements, accompanied by severe anal pain. I am concerned that this may be due to an anal fissure and would like to know whether this condition can heal on its own.
An anal fissure is an ulcer formed by a tear in the skin layer of the anal canal. Bleeding from an anal fissure typically presents as a small amount of bright red blood during bowel movements, usually not excessive in volume. Whether bleeding from an anal fissure can heal on its own depends on the severity of the condition.
Mild cases of bleeding caused by anal fissures may resolve spontaneously through dietary adjustments and changes in lifestyle habits, such as consuming more fiber-rich foods, maintaining regular bowel movements, avoiding prolonged sitting, and keeping the anal area clean. In such cases, bleeding may stop within a few days, resulting in spontaneous recovery.
However, severe cases cannot heal on their own. Patients need to seek timely medical attention and receive treatment under a doctor's guidance, including medication and surgical interventions, to prevent further worsening of the condition.
