At what age can one undergo hair transplantation?
I would like to know the appropriate age range for undergoing hair transplant surgery.
Hair transplantation, also known as hair follicle implantation, involves extracting healthy hair follicles from the back of the head, culturing them specially, and then transplanting them to the balding areas. After adapting to the new blood circulation system, these follicles can grow new hair. Generally, individuals over the age of 18 may consider hair transplantation, although doctors usually recommend waiting until after age 20, as most people's hair loss patterns have become relatively stable by then.
Teenagers under 18 are generally not recommended for hair transplantation, as their bodies are still in a stage of growth and development, and the surgical procedure or post-operative recovery may interfere with normal development. For middle-aged and elderly individuals over 55, their immune systems may be weaker, and they may suffer from other chronic illnesses; these factors are not conducive to surgery or post-operative recovery.
Prior to deciding on hair transplantation, a comprehensive medical evaluation should be performed, including examination of scalp and hair conditions, and identifying any health issues that may affect surgical outcomes. If hair loss is caused by genetic factors and the individual experiences significant distress due to it, hair transplantation may be considered.
