What causes headaches from drinking beer?
I used to get a headache the next day as soon as I drank beer. I'd like to ask the doctor, what is the reason for this?
Headaches after drinking beer may be caused by several factors, mainly including the following:
1. Alcohol poisoning: After excessive alcohol consumption, elevated ethanol levels may cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain, inhibiting the central nervous system, causing blood vessel dilation and inflammatory responses, which can lead to congestion and swelling in the head, resulting in pain.
2. Alcohol itself is a vasodilator; excessive consumption can lead to blood vessel dilation and a drop in blood pressure, stimulating pain nerves in the brain and thus triggering headaches.
3. Metabolic byproducts from excessive drinking, such as acetaldehyde accumulation, can also burden the body and cause symptoms like headaches.
4. Substances in beer such as sulfites and tyramine may also trigger headaches.
5. Increased intracranial pressure: Various factors such as tumors, infections, or hemorrhaging may cause elevated intracranial pressure. When the pressure inside the skull exceeds the normal range, it can cause headaches.
6. Migraines: Alcohol consumption may trigger migraine attacks, especially in individuals with a history of migraines.
Therefore, it is important to drink alcohol in moderation and maintain healthy lifestyle habits.
