What causes a bitter and dry mouth?
During this period, I have been experiencing persistent dryness and bitterness in the mouth, especially upon waking up in the morning. Drinking water does not seem to help much. I would like to ask what could be causing this dryness and bitterness in the mouth?

Bitter taste and dry mouth can be caused by various factors.
1. Gastrointestinal diseases: Conditions such as gastritis, cholecystitis, or gallstones may cause bile reflux into the esophagus, leading to a bitter taste in the mouth.
2. Oral problems: Poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease, and dental caries can also result in a bitter and dry mouth.
3. Medication side effects: Certain medications such as antidepressants, antihypertensives, and antihistamines may cause dry mouth as a side effect.
4. Endocrine disorders: Endocrine diseases such as diabetes and thyroid dysfunction can cause dry mouth.
5. Neurological diseases: Conditions such as Parkinson's disease or sequelae of cerebrovascular accidents may affect salivary gland secretion, leading to dry mouth.
6. Autoimmune diseases: For example, Sjögren's syndrome, one of its main features is severe dry mouth and dry eyes.
7. Psychological factors: Emotional states such as anxiety and depression may also manifest as symptoms of dry and bitter mouth.
8. Dehydration: Prolonged lack of water intake or excessive sweating can lead to body dehydration, causing dry mouth.
If symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical consultation is recommended.
