What are the side effects of hyaluronic acid injections?
I have recently been considering facial fillers. I heard that hyaluronic acid injections can improve fine lines and enhance skin elasticity, but I'm also concerned about potential side effects. I am 30 years old, and my skin condition is still quite good. However, I have recently noticed the appearance of fine lines around my eyes and mouth, and I would like to improve them through hyaluronic acid injections.

Side effects of hyaluronic acid injections include vascular embolism, infection, allergic reactions, and shape irregularities.
1. Vascular Embolism: Improper injection techniques may result in accidental intravascular injection of hyaluronic acid, leading to vascular embolism. This embolism may occur subcutaneously, causing skin ischemia and necrosis. Severe cases may lead to ophthalmic artery embolism, blindness, or even life-threatening cerebral embolism and pulmonary embolism.
2. Infection: Inadequate sterilization during injection or improper post-injection care may allow bacteria to enter the injection site, causing localized infection with symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pain. Although the risk of infection is low, strict adherence to aseptic techniques and post-procedure care guidelines is necessary.
3. Allergic Reaction: Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to certain components in hyaluronic acid, such as redness, swelling, itching, and difficulty breathing. The risk of allergy increases when the hyaluronic acid formulation contains excessive binding agents.
4. Shape Irregularities: Uneven injection volumes or injections placed too superficially may lead to skin surface irregularities, affecting aesthetics. Additionally, hyaluronic acid may spread to surrounding areas, resulting in suboptimal cosmetic outcomes.
