Adverse Effects of Levofloxacin Tablets
I had a sore throat recently and went to the hospital for a checkup, where I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. Since my health has always been poor and I often get sick, I usually take Levofloxacin tablets whenever I have a throat infection. I would like to ask whether taking this medication frequently could cause any side effects?

Possible side effects of Levofloxacin tablets:
1. Gastrointestinal reactions: These are among the most common side effects and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms usually resolve spontaneously after discontinuation of the medication.
2. Allergic reactions: Some patients may develop allergic symptoms such as rash, itching, and urticaria. Severe cases may involve anaphylactic shock, which requires immediate discontinuation of the drug and medical treatment.
3. Effects on the nervous system: Long-term or high-dose use may cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, insomnia, and anxiety. There have also been reports of severe neurological and psychiatric reactions including seizures and hallucinations.
4. Tendon injury: Quinolone antibiotics may increase the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, particularly in elderly patients, those engaging in strenuous physical activity, or those concurrently using corticosteroids.
5. Cardiotoxicity: Reports have indicated that quinolone antibiotics may prolong the QT interval, leading to arrhythmias. These drugs should be used with caution in patients with impaired cardiac function.
In addition, do not adjust the dosage or discontinue the medication on your own to avoid affecting treatment efficacy or worsening side effects.
