Disease description:

During a physical examination, I had cervical-related tests done and found out that my cervix is somewhat enlarged. This condition has persisted for quite some time, although I only learned about it after the examination. Do I need treatment for this condition?

Cervical hypertrophy usually refers to the cervix having a volume or weight that exceeds the normal range. If there are no accompanying symptoms, treatment generally is not required. However, if discomfort symptoms are present, treatment is usually necessary.

If cervical hypertrophy does not cause discomfort, such as abnormal bleeding or pain during intercourse, and cervical cytology and HPV test results are normal, special treatment generally is not required, and regular follow-up is sufficient. If the patient experiences severe inflammation or related symptoms, such as abnormal vaginal discharge, lower abdominal pressure, or back pain, it may affect the meeting of sperm and egg, leading to infertility. In such cases, targeted treatment according to the specific cause is needed, such as medication or physical therapy. Surgery, such as cervical conization, may be considered when necessary.

The treatment of cervical hypertrophy should be individualized, with a reasonable treatment plan formulated by a qualified physician according to the patient's specific condition. Patients should develop good hygiene habits in daily life, monitor their symptoms, and attend regular follow-up examinations as instructed by their physician. A light diet and good personal hygiene are recommended to promote recovery.
