What causes dry mouth and a bitter taste? Everything I eat tastes bitter, even something as fragrant as...
In the past week, I have constantly felt a dry mouth and a bitter taste, which cannot be relieved even by drinking more water. Worse still, everything I eat tastes bitter, and even my favorite sweet fruits have become difficult to eat. This condition is causing me great distress, and I wonder if something might be wrong with my health.

Dry and bitter mouth accompanied by taste disturbances may be caused by digestive system diseases, which can lead to bile reflux and result in a bitter taste in the mouth. In addition, poor oral hygiene, such as periodontal disease and dental caries, may also cause bad breath and dry mouth. Moreover, medications, psychological factors, and other medical conditions can affect the secretory function of salivary glands or cause imbalance in oral microbial flora, thereby causing dryness and bitterness in the mouth.
Firstly, maintain good oral hygiene habits, brush and rinse teeth regularly, use fluoride toothpaste, and consult a dentist when necessary. Additionally, improve dietary habits by reducing intake of spicy, greasy, and high-salt foods, while increasing consumption of vitamin- and moisture-rich foods such as vegetables and fruits to maintain a balanced diet. At the same time, improve lifestyle habits, ensure adequate sleep, and reduce stress. If symptoms of dry and bitter mouth persist and significantly affect quality of life, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
