What does it mean when vaginal discharge turns yellow?
When I changed my underwear yesterday, I noticed some yellowish substance on it, which should be vaginal discharge. I would like to know what causes vaginal discharge to turn yellow?
Yellowish vaginal discharge is usually a sign of inflammation in the female reproductive system and may be caused by various factors. Common causes include bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, trichomoniasis, and others.
Inflammation can alter the color, odor, and consistency of vaginal discharge. Yellow or green discharge, accompanied by a foul smell, itching, or a burning sensation, may indicate conditions such as cervicitis, endometritis, or pelvic inflammatory disease. Long-term antibiotic use, contraceptive medications, decreased immunity, or chronic conditions such as diabetes can also affect the vaginal environment and increase the risk of infection.
Yellow vaginal discharge may also result from physiological factors. Prolonged lack of sleep or consumption of spicy and irritating foods may lead to internal heat in the body, causing yellowish discharge. Wearing tight, non-breathable clothing such as nylon pants for extended periods may increase the temperature and humidity of the perineal area, promoting fungal growth and resulting in yellow vaginal discharge.
It is also important to note that sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea and genital herpes may cause yellow vaginal discharge. It is recommended to seek timely medical consultation for a gynecological examination and necessary laboratory tests to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
