Can pregnant women drink black tea?
I am currently pregnant and usually enjoy drinking black tea. However, I've heard that there are many dietary禁忌 (taboos/restrictions) for pregnant women, and I would like to know whether it is safe for pregnant women to drink black tea.

Pregnant women can drink black tea in moderation, but should be mindful of certain considerations.
Black tea contains caffeine and tea polyphenols. Moderate caffeine intake can help refresh the mind, relieve fatigue during pregnancy, but excessive intake may have adverse effects on both the pregnant woman and the fetus, such as increased heart rate, insomnia, anxiety, and even increased risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Therefore, a pregnant woman's daily caffeine intake should be limited to less than 200 mg.
In addition, tannic acid in black tea may affect the absorption of iron by pregnant women, increasing the risk of anemia. Therefore, pregnant women should avoid consuming black tea with iron-rich foods and supplement iron appropriately.
Thus, pregnant women can drink black tea in moderation, but should control the amount consumed, avoid drinking it on an empty stomach, and it is recommended to drink it one hour after meals to reduce irritation to the gastric mucosa. Also, avoid drinking it before bedtime to prevent sleep disturbances. If any discomfort occurs, consult a doctor promptly.
