A hard lump in the chest accompanied by pain may be caused by conditions such as mammary gland hyperplasia, breast cysts, mastitis, or breast fibroadenoma.

Mammary gland hyperplasia and cysts are often related to hormonal changes. These conditions are commonly seen during the menstrual cycle and usually present as bilateral symmetrical changes, with variable consistency from soft to firm, and may be tender upon palpation. Mastitis typically occurs in lactating women and is accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. Breast fibroadenoma is a common benign tumor.

The appearance of a hard lump with tenderness in the chest should be taken seriously. Once a lump in the chest is detected, especially if it is unilateral, fixed, hard in consistency, or progressively enlarging, prompt medical attention is necessary. Imaging examinations such as breast ultrasound and mammography should be performed, and a biopsy may be required when necessary to confirm the diagnosis and rule out malignancy.

In addition, for lactating women, milk stasis could also be a possible cause, and symptoms may be relieved with warm compresses or massage. For women during puberty or menstruation, similar symptoms may occur due to hormonal fluctuations, which are usually normal.
