Generally speaking, people with coughs can eat clams, but it is recommended to consume them in moderation.

Clams are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, and thus offer certain nutritional benefits. Moreover, moderate clam consumption can help strengthen the body and improve resistance to disease, providing some auxiliary benefits for the recovery of individuals with coughs. It is recommended to prepare clams by steaming or making them into soup, avoiding frying or adding excessive spicy seasonings, which may irritate the respiratory tract and worsen cough symptoms.

However, if the person with a cough has an allergic constitution, especially an allergy to seafood, consuming clams may exacerbate allergic reactions, leading to worsened coughing, and therefore is not recommended in such cases. Additionally, clams are considered cold in nature and excessive consumption is not advisable for individuals with cold-dampness constitution or weak spleen and stomach, to avoid damaging these organs. During periods of coughing, it is recommended to drink plenty of water, maintain humid indoor air, avoid smoking and secondhand smoke, and also avoid exposure to cold air and harmful gases, all of which can help alleviate cough symptoms.

To maintain good health, it is recommended to eat a balanced diet, maintain reasonable intake levels, and pay attention to bodily reactions, avoiding excessive consumption or eating clams when inappropriate.
