Can I use skincare products during pregnancy?
My sister is pregnant, but she still pays attention to facial skincare. I would like to ask, is it okay to use skincare products during pregnancy?
Generally, pregnant women can use skincare products specifically designed for them, while other functional skincare products should be avoided as much as possible. Skincare products designed for pregnant women usually do not contain hormones, alcohol, heavy metals, fragrances, or other harmful chemical substances, making them safer and more reliable. Choose products containing natural ingredients, such as moisturizing factors like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, as well as plant extracts, and avoid skincare products containing chemical ingredients. Functional skincare products, such as those for skin whitening, freckle removal, or anti-aging, may contain special ingredients whose safety for the fetus is unknown, and their use is therefore discouraged.
Apply a moderate amount of skincare product to the face and neck only, avoiding excessive use. It is not recommended to apply skincare products to other body areas, especially the abdomen. Long-term use of skincare products by pregnant women is not advised, as it may lead to thinning of the skin's stratum corneum and cause symptoms such as skin sensitivity and redness. Before using a new skincare product, it is recommended to conduct a skin test on the back of the hand or behind the ear to check for allergic reactions. If skin irritation, itching, swelling, or other discomfort occurs during use, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
