Can I still drink yogurt after its expiration date?
I bought several bottles of yogurt last week, and today I found that they had already expired. Are they still safe to drink?

It is generally not recommended to consume yogurt past its expiration date. The lactic acid bacteria in yogurt can inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. However, over time, the activity of these beneficial bacteria decreases, leading to a decline in yogurt quality. If yogurt is exposed to unsuitable temperatures, bacterial growth may occur, causing food spoilage. Therefore, expired yogurt may develop an unpleasant odor, spoilage, or mold. After expiration, the nutritional components in yogurt, such as proteins and vitamins, gradually decrease, causing it to lose its original nutritional value. Consuming expired yogurt may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, food poisoning may occur.
To ensure food safety, it is recommended not to consume expired yogurt. In daily life, one should choose fresh yogurt and store it properly by keeping it at an appropriate temperature, avoiding exposure to high temperatures or humid environments. Additionally, once opened, yogurt should be consumed promptly, and any remaining yogurt should be refrigerated. If yogurt develops an unpleasant odor, shows signs of spoilage, or is past its expiration date, it should be discarded immediately and not consumed.
