Can povidone-iodine treat pimples?
Acne appears on the face, and some people say that iodophor can treat it. I would like to know whether iodophor is actually effective in treating acne, if there are any side effects associated with using iodophor for acne, and what precautions should be taken when using it?
Iodophor is generally not effective for treating pimples. It is recommended to use appropriate medications under the guidance of a doctor for treatment.
Iodophor is a commonly used topical disinfectant with antibacterial and bacteriostatic properties. It is often used for skin surface disinfection, such as pre-surgical skin preparation and wound disinfection. Iodophor can kill bacteria, but it cannot eradicate acne-causing Propionibacterium acnes deep within the hair follicles, so it cannot cure pimples. Additionally, iodophor has a relatively high concentration, and direct application on pimples may irritate the skin and cause discomfort.
Pimples, also known as acne, are usually associated with factors such as hormonal imbalances, improper diet, and irregular作息 (作息 here should be translated as "lifestyle habits" or "sleep patterns"). These factors lead to clogged pores and bacterial infections. Iodophor has a dark color and may leave temporary yellow stains on the skin, making it unsuitable for long-term use on facial areas where appearance is a concern. Moreover, iodophor is quite irritating, and direct application may worsen local irritation and cause discomfort.
For the treatment of pimples, appropriate methods should be selected based on the severity, such as topical medications, oral medications, or physical therapies.
