Will eating hairy crabs cause weight gain?
My wife is currently on a diet and really wants to eat hairy crabs. We are unsure whether eating hairy crabs will cause weight gain. Doctor, will eating hairy crabs lead to weight gain?
Eating hairy crabs generally does not lead to weight gain.
Hairy crabs are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, and various vitamins including A, B-complex, and E. These nutrients are beneficial to health. Additionally, hairy crabs are relatively low in calories; a 100-gram hairy crab contains approximately 100–150 calories, a value that may vary depending on the crab's size and cooking method.
Due to their low calorie content and high-quality protein and other nutrients, moderate consumption of hairy crabs typically does not cause weight gain. On the contrary, adequate protein intake helps maintain muscle mass and boost metabolic rate, which positively affects weight management. Moreover, although hairy crabs are not high in calories, excessive consumption may still lead to excessive caloric intake and thus weight gain.
When consuming hairy crabs, it is advisable to pair them with some light vegetables or fruits to maintain nutritional balance and aid digestion. Also, individuals with weak digestive function or a cold stomach should avoid excessive consumption of hairy crabs to prevent worsening of gastrointestinal discomfort.
