Disease description:

After contracting influenza A, my physical condition is not as good as before. Although I have recovered, I still feel some fatigue and occasionally cough. Are these considered sequelae? If so, what other symptoms can be considered as sequelae?

Influenza A refers to type A influenza. Symptoms of post-influenza A sequelae may include fatigue, memory impairment, abnormal respiration, and sensory disturbances.

Under normal circumstances, most people can fully recover within one to two weeks after infection. However, for some individuals, especially the elderly, children, patients with chronic diseases, and those with weakened immune systems, influenza A can trigger a range of severe complications and may even result in long-term sequelae.

After infection with the influenza A virus, the illness may last for an extended period, increasing the body's energy consumption and causing fatigue. The virus may invade the central nervous system, leading to neuronal damage or inflammatory responses, which can result in symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, slowed thinking, and memory decline.

The influenza A virus may also affect the olfactory and gustatory nerves. Some patients may experience reduced or lost sense of smell and taste disturbances after recovery, and these conditions may persist for weeks or even months.

Doctors may recommend tests such as blood tests, chest X-rays or CT scans, and electrocardiograms to accurately diagnose the cause. At the same time, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, such as balanced nutrition, moderate exercise, adequate rest, and avoiding overexertion, can help promote physical recovery.
