Can a nose augmentation (rhinoplasty) last a lifetime?
My sister is 34 years old this year and has recently undergone rhinoplasty. She would like to consult whether the results of rhinoplasty can last a lifetime.

Nasal augmentation typically cannot last a lifetime. If the procedure is performed using injections or autologous fat filling, the results may last for a shorter duration. If prosthetic augmentation rhinoplasty is performed, the results can generally last 10–20 years, provided the surgery is successful and no complications arise. Common injectable materials used for non-surgical rhinoplasty include hyaluronic acid and autologous fat. These materials are gradually absorbed by the body, so their effects are typically not long-lasting. Hyaluronic acid injections usually maintain their effect for 6–12 months, while autologous fat filling may last 3–5 years. Common surgical materials used in rhinoplasty include silicone, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), and autologous cartilage. Silicone and ePTFE implants generally provide long-lasting results. Autologous cartilage rhinoplasty, which uses the patient's own tissue, offers better biocompatibility with nasal tissues and thus more enduring results, potentially lasting 10–20 years.
Patients are advised to thoroughly understand the surgical procedure, potential risks and complications, as well as postoperative recovery and care before surgery. Additionally, regular follow-up visits to the doctor are recommended to monitor the condition of the augmented nose and promptly address any potential issues. Patients should maintain realistic expectations and follow the postoperative care and maintenance instructions provided by their doctor to prolong the duration of the rhinoplasty results.
